It’s no secret that Saratoga Springs, NY is a dog friendly town! Because many business owners and city locations provide easy access for dogs (yes, and cats!), it’s easy to find pet friendly things to do in and around The Spa City. If you live in Saratoga, you may already be familiar with some of these pet-friendly locations. For summer visitors, tourists and track-goers, finding “cool summer hot spots” for you and your pet is as simple as browsing the list below! 1. Broadway in Saratoga
Walk down Broadway with your pup and stop in to browse the dog friendly shops and stores in downtown Saratoga! Broadway is famous for racehorse owners and the racing track crowd, but it’s also home to Sloppy Kissses, Dawgdom and Impressions of Saratoga. Each store is unique and full of goodies and treats your dog will love!
2. Saratoga Farmers Market
The Saratoga Farmers Market is dog friendly! The farmers market runs every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the summer at the High Rock Park Pavilions (High Rock Ave. Saratoga Springs, NY 12866) . It is open from May 1 – Oct 30, 2013 on Wednesdays, 3pm – 6pm and Saturdays, 9am – 1pm. You may just find some one-of-a-kind dog treats your four-legged friend will love!
3. Swimming or Boating on Saratoga Lake
Enjoy the fresh air and cool water…. Take your dog swimming or boating on Saratoga Lake! Make sure to exercise basic safety precautions to ensure a safe and pleasant day out on the lake…check our list of dog boutiques and stores for collars, leashes and doggie life preservers!
4. Saratoga State Park Dog Park
Though not officially a NYS State Park dog facility, the Dog Park is maintained and owned by them. You can bring your dog to play 7 days a week from Mon – Sun: 6:00 am-9:00 pm. Located on Rt. 9 South Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
5. Hiking in the Adirondacks
For those of you who enjoy spending time in the great outdoors, hiking with your dog is a fantastic way to enjoy the beautiful Adirondack mountains and get exercise for both of you! There are a variety of hikes that are easy and enjoyable for you and your dog.
6. Walk the Spring Run Trail
The Spring Run Trail is unique with its remarkable history and scenery. It is a one-mile paved trail on an old railroad bed surrounded by beautiful woods and wetlands.
7. Visit The Saratoga Battlefield
The Saratoga Battlefield is the largest of the three sites that make up Saratoga National Park and is home to the Wilkinson Trail, a 4.2-mile trail that is largely flat and bounded by tall grass and wildflowers that your dogs will love. 9. Oscar’s Smokehouse
Take a trip up to Oscar’s Smokehouse in Warrensburg, NY. Oscars family owned Smoke House specializes in smoked meat and cheese items such as smoked sausage, turkey, beef jerky, chicken, smoked pork, smoked bacon, smoked ham, and gourmet meat. They have a variety of bones and treats made just for dogs.
